Poverty in India has long been rurally imagined. Programmes, policies, missions and resources have followed suit. There are no urban equivalents, for example, of several national missions in work, health, or electricity, among others. This has, in the past two decades, begun to change as the challenges and sheer magnitude of urban poverty continue to rise.
