In Ahmedabad, the larhest city of Gujarat state, the research focuses on two poor localities: Bombay Hotel, an informal commercial siubdivision located on the city's southern periphery and inhabited by Muslims, and the public housing sites at Vatwa on the city's south-eastern periphery used for resettling slum dwellers displaced by urban projects.
