The Metropolitan Day is a global campaign that invites all mayors of each metropolitan city to gather, at least once a year, with their local peers to find solutions to the main metropolitan challenges of this century, honouring the date of the UN Montréal Declaration on Metropolitan Areas, October 7th, 2015, and the UN Urban October.
This joint initiative is fostered by several leading global partners such as CIPPEC, the InterAmerican Development Bank, Metrópolis, UN Habitat´s MetroHUB Initiative,Guadalajara University, Politecnico di Milano, Metropolitan and Territorial Planning Agencies, Fundação Getulio Vargas - CEAPG, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and Transversal.
This initiative seeks to organize, between October 1st to 7th, 2018, a one-day event for local leaders to meet up with all metropolitan peers within their region. The main goal will be discuss the most pressing issues they must face as a metropolitan community and raising awareness to set basic conditions for collaboration and cooperation. Partners will provide the peer-learning methodology to host cities.
Each metropolitan city interested in hosting this initiative have time until June 30th, 2018, to accomplish the following requirements:
