Walk Smart: Policy for Pedestrian Facilities and Safety in Pune City

Presently there is no policy for pedestrian facilities and safety. Specifc procedure is not followed for deciding type of pedestrian road crossing at any location. Thus there is no uniformity and consistency regarding pedestrian facilities provided in the city. Hence there was an urgent need for an appropriate policy to make it easy and safe for people to walk and cross roads. Pune Municipal Corporation has now formulated such a policy for Pedestrian safety and comfort. The policy covers mandatory features for pedestrian infrastructure and a standardized procedure for deciding the type of crossing to be provided on case to case basis as per local needs.
