Training Programme on Smart Grid for Smart Cities

"Assured Electricity Supply" is one of the identified pillars of "Smart City-Core Infrastructure" identified by the Smart City Guidelines from water supply, sanitation, transport, housing, IT connecttivity and digitization, e-Governance, sustainable environment, safety and security of citizens, health and education.

With the Convergence of IPDS and Smart City Guidelines by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, Smart Solutions for assured electricity supply considered are (a) Infrastructure upgrades of sub-transmission and distribution networks: (Better aesthetics with aerial bunched cables, UG cables), (b) At least 10% of smart city's energy requirements coming from Solar, (c) Smart Metering, robust IT connectivity and Digitization, (d) Outage management system, (e) 80% Green Buildings. Robust IT connectivity and digitalization under smart city mission enable the Smart Grid interventions such as Load management, Renewable Energy Integration, Operational efficiency improvement, Consumer  service improvement.

The key objectives of this training programme are:

  • To make aware the stakeholders in power sector about the concepts of smart city.
  • To familiarize about the aspects to provide "Assured Electricity Supply" with the focus on smart grid applications, renewable energy and smart ways to load management.
