Startup India is a flagship initiative of the Government of India, intended to build a strong eco-system for nurturing innovation and Startups in the country that will drive sustainable economic growth and generate large scale employment opportunities. The Government through this initiative aims to empower Startups to grow through innovation and design. Startup India has worked with 17 states to reform their StateStartup policies and these states have significantly contributed to motivate and encourage their local entrepreneurs.
This Compendium of Good Practices provides illustrative examples of how the Central and various State/UT governments have used diverse policy instruments to strengthen Startup ecosystem in their domains. These examples will serve to inform and educate those working in the field, and hopefully enable them to replicate the positive results achieved, as well as create new good practices. Accordingly, it will be a valuable tool to assist the achievement of goals under the Startup India program.
This compendium lists the initiatives led by the States & Union Territories under 7 parameters which identify the policies and regulations made for the benefit of startups. Identification of these parameters and categorization of these practices was a major challenge but our regular interaction with Startups and other stakeholders provided us very useful insights in this context.
