India Smart Cities Internship Program

Smart Cities Mission seeks to engage students pursuing Under Graduate/Graduate/Post Graduate Degrees enrolled in recognized University/Institution within India or abroad, as "Interns". These interns are expected to supplement the process of implementation of Smart City Projects in various States/Cities. The internship will be on unpaid basis.

The Program

Name of the program:

India Smart Cities Internship Program

Purpose:

To allow short term exposure of "selected candidates" in the following , but not limited to, domain areas as 'Interns':

  • Urban Planning
  • Urban Design
  • Engineering
  • Information and Technology
  • Urban Mobility
  • Finance
  • Social Sector
  • Environmental issues

Objectives of the program:

The program has the following stated objectives:

  • To engage students pursuing Under Graduate/Graduate/Post Graduate degree enrolled in recognized Universities/Institutions in India or abroad as interns.
  • The interns will be given exposure to various areas of development under Smart Cities Mission.
  • The interns are expected to supplement the process implementation of Smart City Projects in various States/Cities.

Internship:

  • Internship shall be available as per the requirements of Ministry.
  • Eligibility: The candidates to be considered for the Internship should be pursuing Graduate/Post Graduate degree enrolled in recognized Universities/Institutions in India or abroad. The age of the candidate should not be more than 32 years as on the last date of receiving the applications
  • Period: The period of internship shall be at least six weeks but not exceeding twelve weeks, depending upon the requirement.
  • Experience Certificate: A certificate regarding successful completion of Internship shall be issued by the Mission Director (Smart Cities Mission), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, GoI. No certificate will be issued to interns who do not complete the internship.

Expected Deliverables:

  • The ‘Interns’ shall be a part of the Smart Cities Mission, and their role primarily would be in implementation/reporting/evaluation and monitoring /knowledge management/stakeholder engagement/ media outreach and other similar activities as assigned to them by the Mission Director (SCM).
  • They will analyse the implementation progress based on the data available with the Smart City Mission and generate reports that will identify the gaps in the implementation policy and suggest measures to improve program implementation.
  • They will also perform any other work assigned by the Mission Director (SCM).

Logistics and Support:

  • Interns will be required to have their own laptops. Ministry shall provide them working space, internet facility and other necessities as deemed fit by the Mission Director (Smart Cities Mission).
  • The interns may be allowed to undertake domestic tours for which TA will be allowed for travelling by Air in Economy class or by Rail in AC Two Tier, subject to approval by Mission Director (Smart Cities Mission).

Procedure for Application:

  • Interested applicants may apply online in the prescribed format through The Urban Learning Internship Program (TULIP).
  • Applicant must also clearly indicate the area of interest.
  • The applications should be accompanied by “No Objection Certificate” from the Supervisor/Head of Department/Principal of the University /Institution, allowing the student to undergo Internship program.

Procedure for Selection:

  • Selection will be made by a Selection Committee constituted by the Mission Director (Smart Cities Mission).
  • 30 Candidates will be selected for internship. The allotment of work among them will be done by the Mission Director (Smart Citied Mission).

Relaxation:

Mission Director (Smart Cities Mission) will have the power to relax any of the conditions mentioned above, in respect of any deserving candidate.
