UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, in cooperation with Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center, Asian Habitat Society, Asia Townscape Design Society, will host the 2017 Asian Townscape Awards. The Award aims to highlight and honor significant efforts made by Asian cities and organizations for the improvement, revitalization and creation of a beautiful and harmonious townscape that is safe, sustainable and with respect to history and local cultures. This award is not only for simply evaluating the beautifulness of the townscape but also highlighting and encouraging the people's efforts of creating more beautiful, sustainable, resilient and/or environmentally friendly townscapes at city, district, or community levels.
Last year, the following four cities were awarded:
1. Yangon City (Myanmar): Shwe Dagon Environs Conservation Scheme
2. Narayanganj City (Bangladesh): Baburail Canal Restoration
3. Can Tho City (Vietnam): Mekong Delta River City Upgrading Project
4. Peshawar City (Pakistan): City Beautification and Uplift Program
Besides the above, the past awards have also been given to a park which has been converted from a waste landfill; or city greening project; or preservation of historic districts; or people's initiative of river beautification; etc.
Deadline of the application (Expression of Interest) is 10 May, 2017
Deadline for submission of detailed presentation materials is 31st May 2017
