Global Compact Cities Programme

The Global Compact Cities Programme is the urban arm of the United Nations Global Compact – city and regional governments collaborating with the private sector and civil society – addressing complex global challenges on the local level.

Presently two key activities on this portal might be of interest to Indian Cities:

1. Call to Action for urban professionals – How are you shaping equitable inclusive cities?

UN Global Compact is partnering with the FPAA (La Federación Panamericana de Asociaciones de Arquitectos) in a call out to the professions that shape cities. This is with the objective of:

  • increasing engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals
  • increasing the interchange of knowledge and effective practice
  • seeding partnerships
  • increasing the replication and scaling up of innovative projects

UN Global Compact is encouraging these organisations to commit and report on projects that are addressing complex social, economic, ecological, cultural and built environment urban challenges. http://citiesprogramme.org/get-involved/private-sector-and-urban-sustain... to-action-how-are-you-shaping-equitable-inclusive-cities/

2. City participants, sign in to publish your projects and best practice

The UN Global Compact – Cities Programme is comprised of city, state and municipal governments who make a commitment to advance sustainable development and the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, anti-corruption and good governance.

Cities and regions are encouraged and supported to work in partnership with the private sector, civil society and community to tackle complex global issues on a local level.

Cities can contribute to the Programme in the following ways:

  1. Getting Started – Commit to the United Nations Global Compact
  2. Commitment projects – align your key urban initiatives to the Compact
  3. Become a Leading City
  4. Become an Innovating City
