City’s Vision
Surat aims to provide safety and protections to young children and sensitize adulty community betters about their needs. They plan to achieve this through evidence-based actions integrating hard and soft interventions and capacity building of stakeholders.
Athwa – Piplod is located South-west zone of the city, spanning across multiple wards. It is primarily a mixed-use neighbourhood with residential and institutional land use. It consists of various early childhood amenities and services, public open spaces and public institutions which are frequented by young children and caregivers on a daily basis. The neighbourhood also houses vulnerable population, needing immediate attention to design and plan more inclusive and responsive environment.
Proposal to enhance the entrance zone of the UHC by creating safe access to the UHC, shaded waiting spaces for ITCs, inside the UHC premise, dedicated play area for ITCs and dedicated facility for feeding and diaper changing
Proposal to provide traffic calming measures near the School entrance and define a School zone along the abutting street, shaded waiting spaces for caregivers, dedicated play area for ITCs with natural play elements and equipment, games painted on floor and walls
Proposal to develop a park for young children and caregivers with dedicated space for structured and unstructured play for young children, play area supported by elements like wooden logs, stone boulders, stepping-stones, sensory play elements like windchimes, kaleidoscope, etc.; sensory play using plants, butterflies and insects; family restrooms with diaper changing and feeding facilities and exercising equipment for caregivers, near play area for children
Proposal to conduct U-turn event (street reclamation event) focused on young children and caregivers, with various activities
Proposal to develop dedicated play area for ITCs, shaded waiting spaces for caregivers with seating, Ggames painted on floor and walls with way finding signages at 3 anganwadis.
