City’s Vision
Agartala is the capital city of Tripura and is the second-largest city in north-eastern India after Guwahati. To improve the quality of life of infants, toddlers and their caregivers, Agartala aims to enhance free open spaces, seating areas, and pedestrian walkways to be more safe and friendly for young children, caregivers, and nurturing mothers.
The pilot neighbourhood is in the central region of the city and is spread across two wards – Ward 16 and Ward 18. The name of the area is Ram Nagar, consisting mostly lower and middle-income group. The neighbourhood is mostly residential, with mixed land use along the collector street (Pragati Road). It has high concentration of 0 to 5-year-old children population and has many areas frequented by young children & caregivers such as markets and public spaces. Many facilities for young children such as schools, hospitals are in this neighbourhood.
News & Updates
In the month of June, stakeholder consultations with residents and local clubs were held to understand their preferences and challenges related to young children’s inaccessibility to open spaces. Total Station Survey (TSS) of the pilot project locations were conducted as well before commencing the designing for the sites.
To develop young children-priority zones at the entry to ITC facilities, to create slow traffic zones, refuge medians protected by bollards, walkways with guard rails, and way finding signages.
